Several injured as Chinese police fire gunshots amidst Tibetans

DHARAMSHALA, October 7: Several Tibetans have been severely injured after Chinese armed forces opened fire and used tear gas to disperse Tibetans gathered at local government office yesterday to appeal for the release of Tibetan man in Driru, eastern Tibet, said Ngawang Tharpa, a Tibetan living in exile with close contacts in the region.

Around three hundred Chinese armed fired gun shots at Tibetans gathered at the local office appealing for the release of Dorjee Dragtsel, who was arrested earlier. A Tibetan named Tagyal and several others have sustained severe injuries.

The current condition and whereabouts of the Tibetans are not known. According to the same source, it is difficult to obtain any additional information as all the phone lines in the region have been cut off.

In a separate incident, On September 29, a number of Tibetans from Taklhay, Bharo, Lavog and Kona villages visited Mowa village demanding the release all Tibetans arrested earlier that day. However, the Chinese armed forces and security personnel detained the Tibetans and were tortured without any reason. They were released later that day on orders from the Deputy Party Secretary of TAR Wu Ying Jie and Nagchu County party secretary Dothog arrived later that day.

On September 28, Tibetans of Mowa village clashed with Chinese security forces after defiant Tibetans refused to raise the Chinese flag and threw them into a river. The authorities propagated that the Tibetans must love their motherland and hoist Chinese national flag on their houses, leading to a standoff between the government authorities and the locals
