DHARAMSHALA, September 17: The south zone Tibetan Parliamentary delegation yesterday concluded its All-India “Solidarity with Tibet” lobbying campaign in Rajasthan with a meeting with the Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.
The six-member Tibetan delegation offered Memento and Memorandum to Gehlot while urging him for support to the Tibetan cause. Gehlot has expressed his solidarity with the Tibetan people.
Thanking the Indian government and its people for the assistance and security provided to the Tibetan refugees, MP Jigme Jungney appealed the Indian Government to “raise the issue of Tibet with the Chinese Government and pressurize China to stop human rights violation in Tibet and address the concerns of the Tibetan people in Tibet that has seen a spate of self-immolations since 2009.”
The delegation also met with the Education Minister of Rajasthan Brij Kishore Sharma and Kunwar Jai Singh of Ajairajpura of Jaipur royalty and briefed them about the situation in Tibet.
Kunwar Jai Singh, a huge admirer of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, assured his moral and financial support for the Tibetan cause, the delegation stated.
The delegates also addressed a press conference and met with members of Bharat Tibet Sahyog Manch (BTSM) of Jaipur and Jodhpur.
The South zone Tibetan Parliamentary delegation comprising of members of the Tibetan parliament, Mr. Gyari Bhutuk, Ms. Tsering Youdon, Ms. Bhumo Tsering, Ven. Atruk Tseten, Mr. Jigme Jungney and Mr. Lobsang Yeshi began their lobbying campaign from Karnataka in January. Since then, the delegation had travelled to Indian states of Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry, Goa, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Rajasthan and met with Indian dignitaries.
“I am overwhelmed by the immense support and solidarity that we have received during our campaign tour,” said MP Tsering Youdon, a female member of the delegation.
The Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile initiated the lobbying campaign as part of the exile Tibetan administration’s attempt at garnering wider support for international intervention in the ongoing crisis inside Tibet.
The Tibetan parliament will meet for ten days from tomorrow for its winter session.
