Ex Tibetan PM launches first journal in Tibetan language

DHARAMSHALA, August 25: Journal of Tibetan Studies, a compilation of research based articles on Tibetan history, culture, religion and many others has been launched here today. Former prime minister and academician Samdhong Rinpoche attended a modest function held at Library of Tibetan Works and Archives.

The launch function was attended among others by members of the Tibetan parliament, writers, scholars, researchers, and teachers.

Speaking at the launch, the Prof. Rinpoche congratulated the editorial board and advised them to maintain the continuity and credibility of the journal.

He also noted that well researched articles in Tibetan language will help promote and preserve the rich cultural heritage of Tibet.

Lobsang Chokta, Editor-in-Chief of the Journal said that the journal aims to counter the barage of Chinese propaganda material in Tibetan language. “Our purpose is not for to work for personal gains or to make money out of it but rather we feel it our responsibility as Tibetans to contribute towards preservation of Tibet’s language and culture.”

The journal will be made available at libraries, research institutes, colleges, universities and schools around the world.

The journal is not a publication of the Library of Tibetan Works and Archives, which publishes The Tibet Journal in English language.
