DHARAMSHALA, AUGUST 23: A five year old Tibetan girl has allegedly been raped by two Tibetan men in Mungod Tibetan settlement on Tuesday, sources told Phayul. However, the rape could not be verified as no FIR has been filed with the police and the matter has been reportedly settled by the village leaders, the local Tibetan Assembly and the representative’s office in consultation with the parents of the victim.
The two men, Nyima Tai and Choephel, and the victim belonged to the same camp. Sources said the two men lured Tsering Dolma (named changed) with a chocolate and took her from school to a house from where the two were nabbed by camp residents including the girl’s father.
Sources further said that the father of the minor initially wanted to report to the police but later declined to do so after discussions with the camp administration which suggested that the matter be internally resolved as “it would bring bad name to the Tibetan leader the Dalai Lama.”
The representative of the settlement could not be reached for comment as he was away for a conference in Bylakupee. His juniors refused to comment on the issue. However, the Department of home of the exile Tibetan goverment under which the Mungod settlement falls said they were aware of the incident but did not confirm the alleged rape. The parents of the victim could not be reached for comment.
Although no medical examination has been conducted on the minor to confirm the rape but sources say the two men have confessed to their crime in front of camp leader and camp’s adminsitrative body. On learning about the incident local residents beat up the two men, sources said, adding that the two men are being kept in solitary confinement away from the camp as a ‘punishment’.
Meanwhile, some sources say that the two men could not rape the minor but were caught with no clothes on.
