DHARAMSHALA, May 28: Individual performances by Tibetan students have been highly impressive this year in the Class XII Central Board of Secondary Education examinations while the overall performance has taken a slight dip as compared to last year.
Also, five Tibetan schools have secured 100 per cent pass percentage in the three different streams of study.
Results for the Class XII CBSE examinations were declared May 27.
1,616 Tibetan students, studying in various schools in India, affiliated to the Department of Education of the Central Tibetan Administration, appeared for the All India Senior Secondary Certificate Examinations conducted by CBSE earlier this year.
According to the DoE, 1411 students passed the examinations while 47 students failed and 158 students were placed under compartment category (failed in one subject). The overall pass percentage of Tibetan schools is 87.3 per cent, which is a notch higher than the all India aggregate of 82.10 per cent.
Compared to last year, this year’s aggregate results fared lower. In 2012, a total of 1177 had cleared the Class XII board examinations, mustering an aggregate pass percentage of 92.52 per cent.
This year as well, Tibetan girls outshone boys in the examinations, results of which often decide future course of studies in India. Out of 798 boys who appeared in the examination this year, 686 (85.96%) passed whereas 725 girls (88.63%) out of 818 cleared the examination, DoE said.
Individual performances by Tibetan students have been highly impressive this year.
Tenzin Chokyi of the Tibetan Homes Foundation School, Mussoorie topped in Arts Stream with 95.4 per cent. While securing an all time high score for the school town of Mussoorie, Chokyi is also entitled to claim the prestigious Sikyong Scholarship of INR 1,00,000 recently introduced by the DoE to encourage students to work harder and perform better in the all-India examinations.
Trinley Tsering Lama of Tibetan Children’s Village School, Selakui topped in Science stream with 92.8 per cent while Tenzin Thinlay of THF Mussoorie topped in Commerce stream with 90.4%.
According to the Department of Education, five Tibetan schools have achieved 100 per cent passing results in this year’s AISSCE examinations. TCV Selakui in Science stream, Tibetan Nehru Memorial Foundation, Clement Town in Arts and Commerce streams, TCV Gopalpur in Arts stream, THF Mussoorie in Science and Commerce streams, and TCV Bylakuppe in Science stream have achieved 100 per cent passing results.
