DHARAMSHALA, April 13:The Chinese authorities detained twenty-one Tibetans following a conflict between Tibetans and Chinese securities over forced land eviction at Kyegudo in Eastern Tibet.
Citing sources with contacts in the area, the Washington-based Voice of America said, “21 Tibetans have been detained after a conflict between local Tibetans and Chinese troops over forced land eviction in Kyegudo in Qinghai (Ch: Yushu).”
“The conflict arose after angered local Tibetans protested the authorities over demolition of their rebuilt homes and tents.” VOA said.
It is reported that six Tibetans were severely injured while four armies were hurt in the incident.
Earlier this month, an unidentified Tibetan woman set herself on fire in Kyegudo to protest against the demolition of her home.
A powerful earthquake hit Kyegudo on 14 April 2010 resulting thousands of deaths and destruction of Tibetan houses and properties.
Following the quake rebuilding Kyegudo has been slow and filled with official nepotism and delay.
“Chinese security forces have bulldozed newly built Tibetan houses and tents on these sites, and have beaten and detained anyone resisting the demolition.”
The Chinese authorities have demolished over a thousand of Tibetan houses in Kyegudo stating occupants are not officially registered to live and hence illegal.
