DHARAMSHALA, June 2: Geshe Tse Ringpo was sworn in as a member of the 15th Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile at a ceremony held at the Tibetan Parliamentary Secretariat yesterday in Dharamshala.
According to the official website of parliamentary secretariat, Geshe Tse Ringpo took oath of office from Speaker Penpa Tsering in the presence of the Deputy Speaker and members of the standing committee of the TPiE.
Geshe Tse Ringpo’s swearing-in comes after Khenpo Choedak Gyatso, a sitting member from the Sakya school submitted his resignation dated May 24, 2012 citing health reasons.
Geshe Tse Ringpo, a former member of the Tibetan parliament, had secured the stipulated 33 per cent of votes during the last general elections in March 2011.
The 15th TPiE is scheduled to meet for its 4th session in September, days before the earlier announced Special Meeting of the Tibetans in Dharamshala.
The unicameral parliament will convene for nine days from September 14 -22 in a new assembly hall. The parliamentary secretariat building is currently undergoing a major renovation.
TPiE had earlier announced plans of carrying out a series of diplomatic and political initiatives in solidarity with the ongoing critical situation inside Tibet.
In less than a year since the 15th Tibetan parliament took oath of office, three MPs have submitted resignations citing personal and health reasons. One sitting member of the parliament passed away during that period.
