DHARAMSHALA, May 29: More than 90 per cent of Tibetan students studying in various schools in India, affiliated to the Department of Education of the Central Tibetan Administration, have passed in the all India Class XII Central Board of Secondary Education examinations.
Talking to Phayul, officials at the education department noted that this year’s pass percentage of 91.52 per cent is a notch higher than last year’s overall performance.
“This year, 1,286 students from 15 Tibetan schools in India appeared for the class twelve board examinations, and out of which 1177 students passed,” Gyaltsen, an education officer at department of education said. “This is an increase of 1.02 per cent from last year’s overall performance.”
Individual performances by students have also been impressive this year.
Tenzin Dawa, a student of Tibetan Children’s Village School, Selakui topped the Science stream with a score of 90.4 per cent, while Yeshi Dawa of Tibetan Homes Foundation School, Mussoorie topped in Arts stream with 86.8 per cent. Lhakpa Dolma of Central School for Tibetans, Mundgod topped in Commerce stream with 91.8 per cent.
This year as well, girls, with an overall pass percentage of 91.55 per cent have done marginally better than the boys, with an overall pass percentage of 91.52 per cent, in the class XII examinations.
Among the three streams, Humanity students have topped the overall pass percentage with 95.17 per cent, beating the other two streams; Science and Commerce with 88.23 per cent and 89.24 per cent, respectively.
According to the department of education, this year, the overall pass percentage of students in the Class X CBSE examinations stands at 98.32 per cent.
1849 Tibetan students from 28 schools appeared for the class ten CBSE board exams.
In the Class X exams as well, girls have out done boys with a marginal difference.
