DHARAMSHALA, May 25: A sitting member of the 15th Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile has resigned citing health reasons.
Khenpo Choedak Gyatso, member of the 15th Parliament from the Sakya school submitted his resignation dated May 24, 2012, according to a report on the official Parliamentary Secretariat website today.
Khenpo Gyatso said that constant health issues was the reason for his resignation. He added that he was acting on his doctor’s advice and planned to seek proper medication.
This was Khenpo Gyatso’s first term as MP.
Although an official announcement is yet to be made, he is expected to be replaced by Geshe Tse Ringpo, a former member of the Tibetan parliament.
As per the Charter of the Tibetans in exile Geshe Tse Ringpo had secured the stipulated 33 per cent of votes during the last general elections in March 2011.
Two representative each from four schools of Tibetan Buddhism and Bon religion are elected to the parliament.
