DHARAMSHALA, January 20: A sitting member of the 15th Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile has resigned citing personal reasons.
Geshe Yungdrung Gyaltsen, member of the 15th Parliament from Do-Toe province submitted his resignation dated January 1, 2012, according to a report on the official Parliamentary Secretariat website.
Geshe Gyaltsen in his resignation has cited his engagements with multiple educational organisations for Tibetans from Tibet and people from the Himalayan region demanded most of his time.
“For the benefit of the work of the parliament and for my association with the registered educational organisations, I am submitting my resignation,” wrote the outgoing MP.
This was the second consecutive term that Geshe Gyaltsen was elected as a lawmaker. In the 14th Parliament, he served as a representative from the Bon school.
As per the Charter of the Tibetans in exile, Lobsang Yeshi, a former president of the Tibetan Youth Congress, will now be sworn in as the 10th Do-Toe representative.
Yeshi had secured the stipulated 33 per cent of votes during the last general elections in March 2011.
