DHARAMSALA, September 23 – A Tibetan man has died after succumbing to injuries sustained during Sunday’s 6.8 magnitude earthquake that ravaged the northeastern Indian state of Sikkim.
Lobsang Jinpa, a graduate from the Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies, Varanasi, was severely injured after falling concrete hit him in the head during the tremors. Lobsang passed away on Tuesday at a hospital in Gangtok.
Lobsang Jinpa was to work as a teacher at the Sambhhota Tibetan School in Gangtok where he had arrived a day before the quake to see the school for himself. He was to be officially appointed by the Sambhota Schools Society after probationary period, said Sambhota Schools administrative office here.
With the death toll from the earthquake touching 112 today, sources say that more bodies are being recovered as rescue operation progresses and moves further into the northern part of the state where damages to life and property are said to be maximum.
