Dharamsala, Sept 6: His Holiness the Dalai Lama is set to inaugurate a four-day educational conference to be held in Gangtok, the capital of the north-eastern Indian state of Sikkim, sometime in December this year.
The four-day conference “Brain and mind, our potential for change: Modern cognitive sciences and eastern contemplative traditions” is being organised by the Namgyal Institute of Tibetology(NIT), according to PTI.
Sikkim chief minister Pawan Chamling is said to have sent a letter to the Tibetan leader thanking him for accepting the invitation to attend the conference, the exact dates of which are not yet made public.
In the letter, the CM conveyed to the Nobel Peace Laureate that the Sikkim government intends to follow up the conference proceedings by introducing moral ethics in Sikkim’s schools and colleges, NIT sources told <>PTI.
The conference is expected to lay the foundations for Sikkim’s efforts to formally introduce concepts of morals and ethics to its school curriculum, they said.
The proposed conference will be attended by leading academics, scientists, thinkers and religious leaders.
The Dalai Lama, who returned to McLed Ganj, his exile hometown north India, yesterday, after attending series of events in South India, including an inauguration of the 33rd World Congress of International Association for Religious Freedom (IARF) in Cochi, Kerela, will attend the “World Peace Fest’ in the Indian city of Pune next month.
The Tibetan leader will deliver a lecture on ‘Peace among nations’ during the inauguration of the Happy Thoughts World Peace Festival on 10th of October.
The festival intends to propose 10 solutions for the world and inner peace that the foundation believes in, and about 100,000 people are expected to attend the festival.
Other speakers at the festival include Magsaysay award winner Kiran Bedi, former CBI special director D R Karthikeyan, computer scientist Vijay Bhatkar ,Symbiosis founder S B Mujumdar and Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachhan.
