Dharamsala, August 12 – Chinese authorities in Sog County, Tibetan Autonomous Region (TAR) have threatened Tibetans with arrest for what they called an “attempt to create rumor and communal discord,” a Tibetan exile with contacts in the region told Phayul.
The incident took place on August 3 when four Tibetans lodged complaint with the Public Security Bureau against a restaurant owner after they allegedly found a human finger in a dish they ordered at a Chinese restaurant.
Several cases of customers finding human nails in dishes served at some Chinese restaurants have been reported in the area, however no one has lodged a formal complaint against the owners with the police. “This is the first time Tibetans had taken the matter to the PSB,” the source said.
However, the security officials charged the Tibetans on attempts to create problems and upon warranting arrest for the “crime”, other Tibetans came forward as witnesses to confirm the incident and avoided their arrest.
The owner of the Chinese restaurant, a Han Chinese, was arrested but released on August 5.
The Tibetans in the region have accused the authorities of racial discrimination and unequal treatment.
