Tibetan exiles to thank Himachal Pradesh State

Dharamsala, April 26 – The exile Tibetan government will host a two day event here to thank the people and state government of Himachal Pradesh on the 50th anniversary of the Dalai Lama’s arrival in Mcleod Ganj.

The ‘Thank you Himachal’ event is being organized by the Tibetan exile government to express Tibetan people’s gratitude to the people and government of Himachal Pradesh on April 30 this year marking exactly 50 years since His Holiness set foot in Dharamsala.

Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal, Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, will grace a ceremony at Dari Mela Ground, near Dharamsala on 30 April 2010. Tibetan leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama will also attend the ceremony.

A photo exhibition on Mahatma Gandhi and His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s message of ‘Peace and Brotherhood’ at the Kangra Arts museum in Dharamshala will be opened by Shri. Krishan Kapoor, Minister of Industries, Himachal Pradesh government.

Shri. Virbhadra Singh, Union Minister of Steel and former Chief Minister of Himachal will grace another event at the Tsuglagkhang courtyard on May 1. Some senior citizens of Dharamsala who have been associated with the Tibetan community for the last 50 years will be felicitated at the ceremony.

Himachal State was formed on 15 April, 1971.

The Tibetan government dedicated a year from March 10, 2009 to March 10, 2010 as ‘Thank You India” year with various events in Delhi, Dharamsala and Bangalore to express the Tibetan People’s gratitude to the government and people of India on 50 years of Tibetans’ arrival in India.
