Zurich, 10 April – His Holiness the Dalai Lama appeared at a rally, “Swiss for Tibet: Tibet for the World” to thank the government and people of Swiss for their support and hospitality. Thousands of supporters from all over Switzerland gathered in central Zurich to express their solidarity with the freedom struggle of Tibetan people.
The Tibetan Leader said, “You came here for a just cause, I very much appreciate.”
On the Sino-Tibet conflict, the Dalai Lama said he was striving for a “mutually agreeable solution” so that the ancient Buddhist tradition and culture of Tibet will be preserved, a culture which is relevant to humanity: a culture of peace, a culture of compassion and the culture of non-violence.
“Despite difficulties, we never give up our struggle,” the Dalai Lama added.
The Tibetan leader said the Tibet issue will remain, and so will the spirit of the struggle. “That 100 percent sure,” he said.
Urging Swiss people to visit Tibet to see the situation to understand the ground realities, the Dalai Lama stated: “We can live together if China provide us meaningful autonomy for all Tibetan areas”.
The Tibetan leader said the people who have gathered for the rally are not just supporting Tibet but justice and respect for human rights.
The Dalai Lama also urged the public to respect all religions while following one’s own faith and to promote human values by developing inner strength. “Please promote these things to show that you are a good friend of the Dalai Lama,” the Tibetan Leader joked.
This “Swiss for Tibet rally” organised by Swiss-Tibetan Friendship Association was one of the biggest gatherings for Tibet held in Switzerland in recent
years.
Earlier in the day, the Tibetan leader attended the First European Tibetan Youth Parliament which is being participated by around 160 Tibetan youth from 11 countries.
