Dharamsala, March 24: Mr. Tsering Dhondup Namey Lahkhang, a former Secretary of the Department of Religion and Culture of Central Tibetan Administration, was on Thursday sworn in as one of the two Justice Commissioners of the Tibetan Supreme Justice Commission.
His Holiness the Dalai Lama administered the oath of office to Mr Lhakang at a ceremony held here this morning at the Tibetan leader’s office.
The ceremony was attended by Chief Justice Commissioner Mr Ngawang Phelgyal Gyechen and Justice Commissioner Mr Ngawang Thupten; Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Tibetan Parliament in Exile, and members of the Kashag (Executive Cabinet) of the Tibetan Government-in-Exile.
The official appointment ceremony was held later at the Kashag Secretariat. Officials from various departments and offices of the Tibetan administration felicitated Mr. Dhondup during the ceremony, a report on the government website said.
Mr. Dhondup was nominated to the post by His Holiness the Dalai Lama and was unanimously approved by the Tibetan Parliament-in-exile during its session, which concluded last week.
He served the Central Tibetan Administration in different capacities since he joined service on October 1, 1975. Among others he worked as Joint Secretary and later as Additional Secretary at the office of Tibetan Supreme Justice Commission from 1994 to 1999.
He also served as Additional Secretary at the Kashag Secretariat from 2000 and was later deputed as the officiating Cabinet Secretary in 2005. In 2006 he was promoted to Secretary level post and served as Secretary of the Department of Religion and Culture.
