In Tiger Woods Press Conference today he sated that he would return to the Buddhist Principles his mother had taught him growing up. Tiger woods stated that:
“Buddhism teaches that a creation of things outside ourselves causes an unhappy and pointless search for security. It teaches me to stop following every impulse and to learn restraint. Obviously, I lost track of what I was taught.”
Perhaps Tiger Woods was reminded of this path with the Dalai Lama’s visit to the White House to meet with President Obama just the day before. The Dalai Lama is an important spiritual leader in Tibetan Buddhism. While there are many different paths in Buddhism they all follow specific tenants called the “Eight Fold Path”. One of the main teachings and that to which Tiger Woods referred to in his statement is moderation.
For those interested in learning more about Buddhism and the Dalai Lama he will be making an appearance on the Larry King show Monday Night. He will be discussing the situation in Tibet, human rights, and global issues. It’s a rare opportunity to see into the mind of the spiritual leader and the literal exiled political leader of the Tibetan people.
