Dharamsala, January 28 – A Chinese court in Sog County, Nagchu Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR), has sentenced four Tibetans to prison terms upto three years, Ngawang Tharpa, a Tibetan from Nagchu now living here said.
Yeshi Jinpa, 44; a monk of Sog Tsenden monastery has been sentenced to two years’ imprisonment while Tenzin Dhargay, 21; received three years’ imprisonment. Both have been taken to Lhasa, Tharpa said.
Yeshi Jinpa, who had traveled to Lhasa to receive medical treatment, and Tenzin Dhargay were prostrating at Jhokhang Temple, one of Tibet’s holiest shrines, on December 2, 2009, when the police arrested them.
Norbu Sangpo, 17; and a 48 year-old nun Choedon who had gone to deliver food to Jinpa and Dhargay at the temple that day have been sentenced to one year in prison. The four were arrested on the same day.
