Dharamsala October 8 – An 18 year old Tibetan woman has died of A/H1N1 Flu on October 4 in Tibet’s Maldrogungkar (Ch: Maizhokunggar) County near Lhasa, the official Xinhua news agency reported. This is the first case of death due to the pandemic A/H1N1 in China and its occupied territories.
Scientists from the Chinese Health Ministry are still investigating her death, Xinhua cited Zeng Guang, a senior epidemiologist at the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
The woman had been reportedly taken to hospital on October 5 with symptoms of coughing, sore throat and fever as high as 40 degrees centigrade.
China’s Ministry of Health dispatched 200,000 doses of vaccine to Lhasa to prevent spreading of the virus in the region, the report said.
China registered 21,453 confirmed cases of H1N1 till Oct 6 including 2,181 in Beijing alone. The 18 year woman’s death was the first case of the pandemic in Tibet.
