Dharamsala, October 6 – The new Election Commissioner cum Chairman of the Public Service Commission, Jamphel Choesang, assumed office yesterday at a modest ceremony here.
Jamphel’s appointment was announced last month when the Tibetan parliament was in session.
Officials of the Central Tibetan Administration, representatives of the various Non-Governmental Organizations and institutions were present to felicitate Jamphel on his first day in office.
Jamphel faces a challenging task head of him with the crucial Kalon Tripa’s election and the general elections for the 15th Tibetan Parliament happening in the same year (2011).
Jamphel has served the Central Tibetan Administration since 1980 in various positions including two foreign missions in South Africa and France as the representative of the Dalai Lama.
Before his appointment as head of the two autonomous bodies, Jamphel was the secretary of the Department of Security.
