Dharamsala, September 25 – More than 200 Tibetans took to the streets of Pittsburgh, the venue for the G20 Summit, yesterday to protest Chinese President Hu Jintao.
The Tibetans had traveled from New York, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Minnesota to demonstrate against the Chinese President who they hold responsible for the suffering of Tibetan people inside Tibet.
Different groups working for environment, against animal cruelty, human rights etc had converged in Pittsburgh to protest the G20 leaders for various reasons.
The Tibetans and supporters wore yellow T – shirts and carried Tibetan national flag, placards etc. There were more than 12 different protests yesterday in Pittsburgh.
The Tibetan demonstrators chanted slogans against the Chinese government to free Tibet. “China lies, people die,” shouted a group of Tibetans, who lined up across Liberty Avenue at Smithfield Street. “Free Tibet before Free Trade,” read one of the placards.
The area allotted for the protesters was 2 blocks away from the actual venue of the summit that became the target of several angry protests by different groups.
President of RTYC, New York & New Jersey, Nawang Tashi, said, “we are here to appeal the world leaders especially President Barrack Obama to pressurize Chinese leaders to stop violating the human rights of the Tibetan people inside Tibet before discussing trade and profits.”
The Regional Tibetan Youth Congress of New York & New Jersey and the Philadelphia Tibetan Community jointly organized the protest and demonstration. The Tibetans will also protest today.
