Dharamsala, March 16 – The Public Security Bureau of Mangra County has arrested a government official of Tibetan origin under suspicion of anti government activities on March 12, two days after the 50th Tibetan uprising day, a source in India with contacts in the area said.
Tashi Dhondup, 27, was picked up by PSB officials from his home in Sumdo Township, Mangra County. Tashi’s laptop computer and cellphone were also confiscated. Sources say he is currently held at Mangra County PSB detention centre. Meanwhile, Tashi’s younger brother Jinpa Gyatso, 25, a student in Xining, has been reportedly missing, the source said adding that he too might have been arrested.
Sources say that the security has been beefed up in Mangra after monks of Lutsang monastery carried out a peaceful protest march on the first day of the Tibetan New Year. Reports indicate that more than a hundred monks of the monastery were taken to an undisclosed location for patriotic reeducation. Movement of vehicles and civilians in the area is tightly monitored, sources say.
