Dharamsala, March 14 – Three Tibetan youths were arrested today in Kardze after they protested the Chinese government, a year since last year’s March 14 uprising in Tibet that spread across the restive Himalayan region, the Voice of Tibet radio service based here reported.
Citing a source from Belgium, the VOT reported that Dawa Tsering, 25, Dhondhup, 24 and Lobsang Nyandak, 25, were severely beaten up by security forces after they chanted slogans in Tibetan “long live the Dalai Lama”, “release all political prisoners of Tibet”, “Dalai Lama be allowed to return to Tibet” and “independence for Tibet”.
The three were taken to a new prison in front of the people’s hospital in Kardze. They also tied Tibetan Buddhist prayer flags for the long life of the Dalai Lama and swift resolution of the Tibet issue.
In another incident on Wednesday (March 11), 3 Tibetan women from Kardze Lhopa (spelled as pronounced) township protested briefly before being beaten up and taken to the prison in front of the people’s hospital. The three were identified by the source as Choetso, 17, Tsetan Lhamo, 17 and Tsering Lhamo, 17.
A lone Tibetan took to the streets on Thursday (March 12) before getting arrested immediately.
