Dharamsala, February 2: Exiled Tibetan leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama was taken to a hospital in New Delhi on Monday after complaining of “a mild discomfort” in one of his arms, according to a media report.
“The doctors have said it is not serious at all. They thought it is better to have an evaluation before he travels to Europe on Feb 8,” Reuters reported Dalai Lama’s Secretary Chimme Rinzin Choekyapa as saying.
The Dalai Lama’s spokesman, Tenzin Taklha, reportedly said the 73-year-old Tibetan leader was brought to New Delhi’s Apollo hospital from the hilltown of Dharamsala, his exile hometown in northern India, after he complained of ‘pain in his arm.’
At the time of filing this report, Taklha said that the medical check-up was already completed and that the Dalai Lama was on his way to a hotel.
“Yes, the check-up is completed and doctor’s report is also already out. We are now moving to a hotel here and His Holiness will return to Dharamsala tomorrow,” Takhla told Phayul.
Takhla also said an update of the medical check-up would be on the official website of His Holiness the Dalai Lama soon.
The Dalai Lama is due to start a visit to Italy and Germany on 8 February.
The Tibetan leader is expected to visit Rome and Venice in Italy and Baden-Baden in Germany, where he will receive the German Media Prize, which is annually awarded to personalities who have shown exceptional commitment and contributed to shaping a more peaceful and socially just world.
