Dharamsala, Jan. 29: Around 200 Tibetans from the four largest Tibetan organizations yesterday carried out a rally against Wen Jiabao at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
The Tibetans called on the WEF organizers, the international community and the global companies to hold high the slogan of the forum – ‘economic progress is not sustainable without social development’.
“We call upon the Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao to respect fundamental rights of the Tibetan people and stop violation of human rights in Tibet where China has killed more than 200 Tibetans and jailed many others,” a joint press statement of the four organizations said.
The Chinese Prime Minister has been invited to be a guest speaker at the five-day economic forum that is participated by several world leaders.
“China claims to be a leading world economic power but their politics barely reflects applicable international standards. Wen Jiabao is not deserving of the honor to speak at the forum like this,” said a Tibetan protestor.
