His Holiness the Dalai Lama commended the harmonious existence of different religious faiths in Nigeria, saying that the world would gain from Nigeria’s show of inter-religious tolerance.
“Basically here in Nigeria, I think the large number of Muslims, the large number of Christians, I think basically remain very harmoniously, this is wonderful, please keep this type of harmonious relationship”.
The 73 year old Nobel Laureate was speaking at the 10th Annual Anyiam-Osigwe Lecture series, in Lagos yesterday.
His Holiness expressed his appreciation to the organizers for their efforts in promoting religious harmony which he said he had being advocating for a long time.
In his talk titled “The Unity of the Absolute: The Oneness of all Religions”, the Tibetan leader said there is a need for a sense of human compassion to stem the evils of starvation, conflicts and others that harm the continent.
“There have remained religious differences and practices in different parts of the world but basically we as humans all have in common the concept of the self (individual). The self despite constituting the centre of the universe, still remains elusive, making it difficult to pin-point what self is.”
