New Delhi, September 5 – After 6 months of vigorous political campaign, the Tibetan Youth Congress diverted its energy to a social cause, the relief works in Bihar which saw the biggest ever disaster caused by flood in 50 years. The Tibetan Youth Congress has set up a relief team to coordinate relief efforts and provide logistical support to those affected by the recent floods in the state.
Nearly two million people have been affected by the devastating flood. Over two thousand people have died, thousands others remain stranded without food, drinking water and basic necessities.
A press release issued today by the TYC says the Bihar Flood Relief team will recruit volunteers to work in Bihar to help with rehabilitation works. The Tibetan Youth Congress has also requested its regional chapters to collect clothes, blankets, food items and donations for the victims of the flood in Bihar.
In the past, the Tibetans have participated in the relief works for Orissa Cyclone, Gujarat earthquake, Tsunami affected areas and other natural catastrophes that struck India. The TYC says that the Tibetans stand in complete solidarity with the people of India in their hour of need.
Bodhgaya, where the Buddhists believe the Buddha had attained enlightenment is situated in the state. Several religious gatherings including Kalachakra initiations had taken place in Bodhgaya.
