New Delhi, August 14 – After a much anticipated wait the police finally came down on TYC and took the hunger strikers in the afternoon today. A medical team came calling and deemed four of the six men critical. They were escorted by police officers who remained in the tent to avoid repeating the debacle of the seventh day when they mistook six volunteers for the hunger strikers.
TYC slammed the lack of arrangement by authorities which included only a police van to ferry the six men to the hospital. They said there was no ambulance available.
Sonam Gyaltsen and Sonam Samdup, 2 of the hunger strikers, defied as the police hauled them away.
Some fifty Tibetans who resisted the police were detained at the Connaught Place Police Station and four women are said to have fainted with two of them currently receiving medical attention at Ram Manohar Lohia hospital.
Vice President Dhondup Dorjee said, “There has been an overwhelming response from Tibetans willing to participate in the indefinite fast without food and water. We will hold a meeting tonight to discuss further plans of action and strategies. It goes without saying that we are going to aim higher this time”
Police intervention came on the ninth day during the first batch as did today which was the second batch’s ninth day into the fast.
