New Delhi, July 3 – The Students for a Free Tibet (SFT) in collaboration with Tibet supporters are appealing to athletes participating in the Olympics to stand in solidarity with Tibet during the Games in Beijing. In order to reach out to Olympic athletes SFT is aggressively raising funds to place a full page advert in the New York Times. Their goal is to reach $51,000 the amount required for the advertisement.

The New York Times is the largest metropolitan newspaper in the United States published in New York City and distributed internationally with a reported circulation of 1,120,420 copies weekdays and 1,627, 062 copies on Sundays (March 2007 statistics).

According to SFT, it is on its way to identifying athletes who may end up “inspiring the world with their courage and character”.

The Athlete Wanted Campaign is described as a “grassroots effort by Tibetans and their supporters around the world to appeal to Olympic athletes from every participating nation to stand up for Tibet at the Beijing Games.”
