Nepal Police in yet another episode of Tibetan protest arrested and detained some 185 demonstrators on Sunday at around 14:45 local time (0900 GMT). Tibetans had staged a protest in front of the Chinese visa office demanding freedom and justice for their homeland.
After a temporary halt in their activities during Nepal Constituent Assembly’s elections April 10 and as a sign of grief at the loss of innocent human lives in Burma and China, Tibetans have now resumed their protest in Kathmandu.
There are more than 20,000 Tibetan refugees living in the Himalayan Kingdom who fled their native country following a failed uprising against the Chinese in 1959. They have since been taking to the streets at regular intervals rallying against the illegal occupation and continued subjugation of ethnic Tibetans by Beijing.
The revival of the half a century long protest was propagated by the unrest that was witnessed in Lhasa in March this year where peaceful demonstrators observing the 1959 uprising were killed by PLA.
