Chandigrah, March 15 – External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Saturday said that the Central Government is closely watching the Tibet situation and it would give its view on it in a day or two.

“We will respond in a day or two,” he added.
India calls Tibet situation as distressing
NEW DELHI, March 15 (KUNA) — India Saturday stated that Tibet was an autonomous region of China and said that it was distressed by the events there and called for dialogue to address the ongoing violence.
“We are distressed by reports of the unsettled situation and violence in Lhasa, and by the deaths of innocent people,” Indias External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Navtej Sarna said in a statement here tonight.
“We would hope that all those involved will work to improve the situation and remove the causes of such trouble in Tibet, which is an autonomous region of China, through dialogue and non-violent means,” Sarna said.
The United States and the European Union have urged China to exercise restraint after demonstrations by Tibetan activists in Lhasa turned violent yesterday.
The agitation at Lhasa began last Monday on the anniversary of a failed 1959 uprising against Beijing by the Tibetans.
Hundreds of Tibetan refugees set off on a march to Tibet from India on March 10 as part of global protests to mark the 49th anniversary of an uprising against Chinese rule. They have since been stopped by the Indian authorities. India has said that its soil cannot be used for anti China propaganda or protest.
