New York March 14 – Chinese state news agency has confirmed the death of 7 people, reports the Associated Press.
The report said the death toll was given by unnamed official with the foreign affairs office of the regional government.
However, exile Tibetans say the death toll is much higher. Dhondup Tsering, a Tibetan living in New York, said that around 80 people have died in the aftermath of the protests in Tibet. He said that his information is based on phone calls from his relatives inside Tibet.
“The Chinese government is trying to hide its crimes by confirming death of only 7 people. I am sure that this is not the true figure, they are lying.”
Tsering Dolma, another Tibetan from New York, while appreciating the countries which urged China for restraint, said that the countries should direct their Ambassadors in Beijing to visit Tibet and inspect the situation as the Chinese media can not be trusted.
