New South Wales, March 06: Mr Dorjee Dadul, a Tibetan Sydney resident and a former President of the Tibetan Community of Australia (NSW), was today invited to the New South Wales (NSW) State Parliament to be awarded with his second prestigious government community service award in as many months.
Mr Dorjee was, earlier on the occasion of Australia Day on January 26, 2008, named the “Citizen of the Year” by Warringah Council, Sydney, for his exemplary contribution to community services.
This Northern Beaches man, who has been dedicated to helping newly arrived Tibetan immigrants settling in Sydney, has been highly commended in the “Community Service Award” category of the prestigious Community Relations Commission’s Volunteer Awards.
Mr Dorjee was congratulated by the Minister Assisting the Premier on Citizenship Ms Barbara Perry at the awards presentation at Sydney today.
“Mr Dadul has been recognised for his valuable work in helping settling new humanitarian immigrants from Tibet,” Ms Perry said.
“He has helped new arrivals find accommodation and get access to education and employment opportunities”.
The awards, which attracted 153 nominations this year, highlight the cultural diversity of those undertaking voluntary work and the range of communities they assist.
A number of community service providers and local residents, including Ms Cathy Butler, Area Manager, Northern Sydney Central Coast Multicultural Health Service were involved in nominating Mr Dadul for the award.
“I have worked personally with Mr Dadul on a number of health related projects and have been impressed by his tireless voluntary work. Mr Dadul has provided exceptional practical support to Tibetan new arrivals settling in Sydney for many years. His support has had a significant impact on the health and well-being of the Tibetan community,” Ms Cathy said.
‘I am also aware that Mr Dadul is responsible for initiating and coordinating a number of initiatives to preserve the Tibetan culture including a Tibetan Cultural Centre “.
“Mr Dadul conducts all of his voluntary activities with a great deal of humility, integrity and professionalism. It was an honour to be involved with his nomination”
