Europe Tibetan Community holds its second conference in Belgium

Huy, Belgium: The second annual Europe Tibetan Community Conference was held in Belgium at Huy on February 23 and 24. The executive members of Tibetan community from eight countries: France, Italy, Switzerland, Spain, United Kingdom, Denmark, Holland and Belgium attended the conference.

The Tibetan community in Belgium was able to conduct the conference with the support of Ven. Lama Karta Rinpoche’s Buddhist center of learning, Yeunten Ling in Huy.

The first Europe Tibetan Community conference was held in Zurich, Switzerland, in 2007.

Mr. Jamphal Choesang, Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in France, was the chief Guest of the conference. In his speech, he explained the ongoing Tibet-China relation and the exile Tibetan Government’s stand on the issue. Mr Jamphal also urged the young Tibetans in Europe to improve and adhere to the rich Tibetan Buddhist culture. He also suggested the organisers to take initiative to persuade more youngsters in joining such workshops.

Ven Thupten Wangchen, president of Tibetan community and Tibet House (CASA DEL TIBET) of Spain has now accepted the decision to organize the next Conference in Barcelona on 24-25 Jan, 2009. He requested all the members to attend the meeting.

On the second day of the conference, the members discussed important political and social matters of the Tibetan society and adopted the following resolution:

(I) The Green book contribution by individuals should be encouraged and this book should serve as an identity of being a Tibetan. The practice of screening of green books for participation in community activities like the Election of community executive members, public gatherings and also during H.H. the Dalai Lama’s special audience for Tibetans.

(II) Commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the 10th March uprising in 2009 to be carried out on a large scale in respective cities by engaging or involving maximum local people in the procession.

(III) The preparation for H.H. the Dalai Lama’s visit to Bassel, Switzerland, and organizing the long life ceremony in October, 2008.

(IV) To send an appeal letter to the TPiE and Kashag to help the Tibetan people in Belgium who do not have valid papers and so live in enormous difficulties.
