Candle Light Vigil for Rebkhong protest
Exiled Tibetans hold a solidarity candle light vigil march on Sunday, February 24, 2008, in the northern Indian town of Dharasmsala to support the latest protest demonstrations staged by Tibetans against Chinese authorities inside Tibet. Hundreds of Tibetans in Rebkong, in Amdo province of Tibet, clashed with Chinese authorities on February 21 as the Great Prayer Festival was underway. The incident escalated into further violent protest demonstrations by Tibetans when Chinese authorities tried to stop the festival. Some 200 Tibetans, mostly monks were initially arrested. Local Chinese government was later reportedly forced to release all those arrested, apparently under the pressure of a massive Tibetan demonstration. Sunday’s candle light walk was organized by the Gu-Chu-Sum (Ex-political prisoners’ Association) Movement of Tibet. (Phayul.com / Photo by David Huang)
