A well-known Tibetan poet Tsering Woeser is calling on her fellow Tibetans to pursue freedom of speech.
Woeser recently received two awards for her campaign for freedom and democracy. One award is from the Norwegian Authors Union, which gave her a Freedom of Expression Prize; the other award is from the India-based Tibetan Journalist Association.
In an interview with RTI on Monday, Woeser said she was very happy about receiving the two awards. She said the awards show that the international community is concerned about the situation in Tibet.
Woeser left Lhasa after she published the “Diary of Tibet” in 2003. Her book was banned in China since it was considered “politically-incorrect” by the authorities in Beijing.
