Bhandara, India: Peoples’ Republic of China’s extensive preparation for their historic event of 2008 Beijing Olympic coupled with the China’s strong aspiration to gain much International acclaim may face series of backlashes due to its poor record of Human rights in both China and Tibet in the coming months. The two-day meeting of Tibet supporters in Maharashtra, on 15 and 16 of this month, which resolved to make 2008 as the year of intensive action for Tibet, coinciding with Beijing 2008 Beijing Olympics, is likely to add more worries on the Chinese leadership.
The two day Convention of India-Tibet Friendship Society (ITFS), Maharastra, with the congregation of 200 active members, also resolved to urge the government of India to take initiative in accelerating the ongoing Sino-Tibet contact building measures and call upon Chinese leadership to respect Tibetan people’s fundamental rights and release of all Tibetan political prisoners. The convention also made decision to appeal the Indian Government to press upon the PRC government for the effective protection of Tibet’s fragile ecology.

Prominent speakers from the state as well as the Centre during the convention were Shri Brishtbushan Tiwari, MP Rajya Sabha; MP Shri Shishupalji Patle, Shri Joginder Kawade, former MP and MLA; Shri Madhukar Kukre, MLA; Shri Dalip Bhansod, MLA; Prof. Dr. Anand Kumar, the National General Secretary of ITFS; Mr. Choechung Wangchuk, Members of Tibetan Parliament-in-exile, Shri Mahendraji Gadkeri, Mayor of Bhandara City; Dr. Manjoj Kumar, Org. Secretary, Central ITFS and Mr. Tsering Dorjee, Coordinator, ITCO.
The convention, jointly organised by ITFS and ITCO, also had Photo Exhibition of Indian Leaders on Tibet, Solidarity March and cultural show by the Tibetans from Gothangaon settlement.
The meeting concluded with the announcement of new office bearer of central and state ITFS, where Shri Suryakant Bakht, the President of ITFS Maharashtra was appointed into the center committee of ITFS.
