Tibetan Shops Gutted in Mathura Fire

Delhi November 23, 2007 – More than two dozen shops owned by Tibetan refugees were gutted down Thursday (15 Nov.) night in Mathura. The shops were located near the Kotwali Bazar. The shops belonged to Tibetan refugees who raise income from seasonal business of woolen garments.

The police is investigating the incident as the fire fighters were trying hard to extinguish the flames.

The exact value of loss to property is not yet known. The Tibetans in Mathura seem shattered and are in complete shock due to the incident. The Tibetans had just started this years business which runs till Mid February.

Sweater Selling has been the major source of livelihood for a large portion of the Tibetan population in India. There are more than 300 cities in India where Tibetans sell woolen garments during the winter.

The Tibetans is Mathura are seeking help.
