Kathmandu RTYC elects new Executive Body

Kathmandu, November 5: The Regional Tibetan Youth Congress Kathmandu held election of its 8th Executive body on Saturday night at Hotel Shahanshah, Kathmandu.

Mr. Drakpa Tenzin was elected the new President. The new 10-member executive body has Mr Lhakpa Gyaltsen and Ms Chime Dolkar as the vice president and General Secretary respectively.

The outgoing president Mr. Tenzin Wangdu was reelected for the second consecutive term but immediately submitted his resignation citing personal inconveniences.

The new executive body was elected from a total of 16 candidates nominated by the outgoing executive body and, members of Tibetan NGOs, sports clubs and individuals.

At the function on Saturday, the outgoing President read out the TYC founding day message to all Tibetans who have come for the election. He also spoke on the regional organisation’s major activities in the the past three years.

The RTYC Kathmandu gave away appreciation certificates to all major donors and supporters that include many local Tibetan welfare associations and sports clubs.

Tsultrim Dorji, former General Secretary of TYC was present as the chief guest. Addressing the gathering, he spoke on wide range of topics, including preservation of Tibetan culture, Tibetan struggle for freedom, situation inside Tibet and China’s intentions to create disharmony in the Tibetan society in exile.

The election process took over three hours. The outgoing executive members congratulated the new members with ceremonial scarves after the oath giving ceremony

Both the outgoing and new President urged everyone for continued support to the Youth Congress movement. Later, a special dinner party was hosted that went late into the night.
