Pretoria, October 28: On this clear Sunday morning, more than 60 people, including resident Tibetans, supporters and well-wishers in South Africa, dressed in the traditional costumes gathered at the main Buddhist Centre to celebrate the recent awarding of US Congressional Gold Medal to His Holiness the Dalai Lama, the spiritual & temporal leader of 6 millions Tibetans.

A day’s program began with all guests partaking in the traditional incense-burning ceremony, meditation and offering prayers for long-life of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

A houseful of people rose when the Tibetans sang their national anthem. This was followed by showing on large screen His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s acceptance speech at the award ceremony held on 17th October in Washington, USA.

As part of the celebration, many native South African boys and girls jubilantly exhibited their cultural song and dances, which were very much liked and enjoyed by guests present for the celebration. Everybody present relished the vegetarian lunch before heading back to their homes.

The event was organized jointly by the Office of Tibet, Pretoria and the Lam Rim Buddhist Centre in Johannesburg.

Report filed by the Office of Tibet, Pretoria, South Africa.
