The ancient art of botanical illustration combines the science of accurately depicting plants and the art of capturing their beauty. The work of Dianne Aigaki involves another element: cultural diplomacy.
The artist, who lives near the foothills of the Himalayas, has carefully rendered 35 wildflowers found at elevations of 11,000 to 17,000 feet in eastern Tibet.
Her show, “Dream of the Turquoise Bee,” opens today at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum in Chaska and runs through the end of the year. There will be an opening reception (free with arboretum entry fee) from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday.
Aigaki also will take part in a symposium on botany as cultural diplomacy on Oct. 11 and lead a two-day workshop for artists Oct. 18-19. For details, call 952-443-1422 or see the calendar on H2.
