Seminar on Tibet held at Jammu

August 2007: Bharat Tibbat Sahyog Manch (Jammu Chapter) in coordination with India Tibet Coordination Office (ITCO), New Delhi successfully held a day-long seminar on “Tibet’s Freedom – India’s Security” at auditorium of Department Of Environmental Science, Jammu University on 16th August, 2007.

Mr. Ashok Gupta, President of BTSM Jammu Chapter, while addressing the gathering of 60 people comprising of students, Professors, and Indian Government staff of Jammu, express the importance of Tibet issue in relation to the India’s security.

Dr. Vivek Kumar, the National General Secretary of BTSM, explained briefly on the pre 1950 borders between India and Tibet when there was no need of Border Patrol. With China’s illegal annexation of Tibet, India today has to spend an estimated 6 crore rupees a day to defend its 4,057-km Indo-Tibetan border.

The Chief Guest of the program Dr. K. C. Agnihotri Ji, National Convener of BTSM address with concern that the Indian Government policy on Tibet had been too unrealistic and cautious post 1950 till date, further elaborated that the new US$ 4.2 billion Gormu-Lhasa railway, for example, has significantly augmented China’s rapid military-deployment capability against India just when Beijing is becoming increasingly assertive in its claims on Indian territories. Now the China has embarked on constructing a 108-km paved road to Mount Everest for the Beijing Olympic 2008 torch relay is a big threat on the fragile Himalayan ecology.

Mr. Sumit of BTSM Jammu successfully concluded the program with vote of thanks.

India Tibet Coordination staff distributed Tibet related materials and pamphlets in Hindi during the seminar.
