Mussoorie Tibetans show overwhelming response to Tibetan Mass Movement

Mussoorie, July 29: 60 Tibetans began staging a 24-hour Hunger strike here yesterday as a symbolic solidarity with the indefinite hunger strike going on in New Delhi since 8th of this month.

The local hunger strike was organised by the regional chapters of the Tibetan Youth Congress (TYC) and Tibetan Women’s Association (TWA), two of the largest Tibetan non-governmental organistions in exile.

The hunger strike began yesterday evening at 7:00 pm local time and is due to end this evening at the same time.

The TYC led indefinite hunger strike by 14 Tibetans in the Indian capital completes 22 day today. The indefinite hunger strike on the basis of five-point demands put forward to the Chinese Government is part of the major worldwide Tibetan Mass Movement called upon by TYC on August 8 2007.

As part of the solidarity campaign, over 2000 Tibetans comprising of local Tibetans, staff and students of Tibetan Homes School and Central School for Tibetan, Mussoorie took out a candle light vigil from Happy Valley into the main mall road of Mussoorie yesterday.

The procession gathered at Library Chowk where a short conclusion session was held.

Mr Tsering Paljor and Miss Tashi Dolma, General Secretaries of RTYC and RTWA of Mussoorie respectively addressed the gathering highlighting the objectives of TYC led mass people’s movement.

Mr Jot Singh Gunsola, Local MLA was the chief guest for the occasion. He was accompanied by Mr Dhanoi, President of Congress Party-Mussoorie.

In his speech, Mr Jot Singh expressed his full support to the fight of Tibetans against injustice by the Chinese Communist regime in their homeland. He applauded the Tibetan people for their non violence approach in resolving the Tibetan issue. Mr Jot also promised on his part to forward the five demands of the indefinite hunger strikers to the government of India.

The 14 Tibetans staging the indefinite Hunger Strike in Delhi are demanding direct response from the Beijing Government to their five demands, which mainly focus on human rights situation inside Tibet.
