Free medical aid camp in honour of Dalai Lama’s Birthday celebration

A “Free Eye Care and Handicapped Camp” was organised at Shri Yogiraj Samadhi Sathal, Aminagar Sarai (Baghpat) on to Celebrate 72nd Birthday of His Holiness the Dalai Lama

Meerut: July 7: A free medial aid camp for visual impaired and physically challenged people was organised in hounour of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s 72nd birthday celebration at Aminagar Sarai some 40 kms from the Indian city of Meerut today.

As part of the camp, a photo exhibition on Tibet was also on display.

The exiled Tibetan spiritual and political leader turned 72 on Friday.

The free aid camp was successfully organised jointly under the banner of Kalyan Karoti, Meerut, Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhay Viklank Jan Sansthan, New Delhi and District Drishtihinta Nivaran Samiti, Baghpat.

The free aid camp started at 9:00 in the morning welcoming guests; Brigadier M. Johar, Dr Rawat and the Chief Guest District Magistrate Mr G. S. Priyadarshan. A lamp was lighted by Mr Priyadarshan and a prayer was conducted for the long and healthy life of His Holiness.

The aid camp included registration of patients in three rooms, each separately for eye, ear, and handicapped patients. There were three to four doctors in each room.

In total, 520 patients were registered, out of which 265 patients were given tricycle, another 48 patients got hearing aids, calipers for 47, wheel chairs for 38 and, 12 pairs of crutches and 8 walking sticks were handed over to patients. Besides, 36 polio-infected children will be operated as part of the aid camp.

Dr M. Israr and Dr Satish examined 324 visually impaired patients and were given free medication. Another 33 visually impaired patients were successfully operated by Dr V.K Malik with Dr M. Israr and 110 were given eyeglasses. Another 26 patients will be given concession on eyeglasses.

844 physically challenged and visual impaired people reported for the camp.

The organisers say the camp was made possible by Mr Anurag Dublish of Kalyan Karoti, B.S.C Johar, Mrs Sunder Bakshi, Dr Neera Saksena, R.P Goyal, Neeta Dublish, Dr Sarojni Vasan, Akbar Alam, Mr Namgyal of India Tibet Coordination Office, Dr D. K Pal – National Co-Convener of Core Group for Tibet Cause, Krishanbal Sharma, Babita Chauhan, Ram Kanta, Anita Singh, V. P. Tyagi, B.D. Gupta, Dr Lobsang Yeshi from Tibetan Medicine and Astrology, Meerut, and social worker Mr Ajay Sothi, Harsh Jain, Abhishek Jain and Sakal Jain Society and with cooperation from the people of Aminagar Sarai the organizers say.
