Dharamshala – The Speaker of Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile has expressed his hope that the leadership of new UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown will accord due priority to the resolution of Tibet issue.

“Tibet and Great Britain have shared a long historical destiny when British-India government was in existence,” Speaker T.T. Karma Chophel said, in a congratulatory letter to Mr Brown.

“We thus consider your country as one of the prime witnesses to the past status of Tibet,” Speaker Chophel added.

The letter dated 27 June also urged the Prime Minister “to give due priority to resolving the issue of Tibet with an international strategic vision”.
