Stockholm: June 07: Members of the Tibetan Community of Sweden (TCS) attended a manifestation organised jointly by Supporting Human Rights in China (SHRIC) and Swedish Tibet Committee (STC) at Mynttorget here today.
SHRIC Chairman, Petra Lindberg and Louise Mattson, Chairman of STC, addressed the programme. From the Tibetan side, Chairman of the TCS, Jamyang Choedon delivered a talk.
In her talk, she highlighted the plight of Tibetan people and the kinds of gross violations of Human Rights that Tibetans have to face since the occupying forces of Communist China marched into Tibet in 1949.
Among other stories of constant atrocities committed by Chinese authorities in Tibet, she painfully narrated the violent incident that took place on Nangpala Pass on September 30, in which a bunch of Chinese border security personnel opened fire on a line of defenseless Tibetans making their way out of Tibet.
In the fateful shooting incident, 17-year old nun Kelsang Namtso Nortso was killed instantly and another 20-year old Kunsang Namgyal sustained serious injury.

In her speech, Choedon also raised concern over the safety and rights of the 11th Panchen Lama, Gendhun Choekyi Nyima, who is forcefully kept under house arrest by the Chinese authorities.
The young Panchen Lama, who is revered by Tibetans as one of the most important spiritual figures of Tibet, turned 18 on April 25 this year. He, along with his parents, was secretly abducted by Chinese authorities in 1995. Even after spending twelve years under Chinese captivity, his whereabouts are still unknown to Tibetans and the outside world.
Her talk even touched issues relating to speculated environmental predicaments in Tibet and the indiscriminate exploitation of Tibet’s natural resources both by the Chinese and multinational companies without consulting the interest of Tibetan people.
She also talked about the growing frustration among Tibetans over the lack of progress in the Sino-Tibetan dialogue process, blaming China for not resorting to sincere approach in resolving the Tibet issue.
On behalf of Tibetan Community of Sweden, she extended appreciation for the organising bodies for their concern towards Tibetan people. She also thanked the organisations and people of Sweden and International community for contributing to the growing global Tibet support network and insisted for their
continued support.
Parliament members; Karla Lopez from Environment party, Karla Lopez of Folkparty, Cecilia Wigstöm from Social Democratic, Carina Hägg of Center party and Sven Bergstöm, and Chairmen from the Inner Mongolia, Uygur and Falun gong groups were the other invited speakers.
The speakers, while expressing support for the rights of Tibetan people, equally raised concern for the rights of the people of Inner Mongolia, Uyghur people and Falun Gong members.
Meanwhile, Tibetans have been invited by the Swedish Uygur Committee for another manifestation on June 09 to be held here.
