Calgary (Canada), May 20: The Tibetan community of Alberta (Canada) participated in the festival celebrating the “Asian Heritage Month” organised by the Imagine Asian Festival 2007 incorporated with Heritage Foundation of Alberta.
The festival is represented by approximately 15 different ethnic communities in Calgary Canada. The Tibetan Community took part in this grand celebration with pomp and piety by displaying the unique costumes of the three Provinces of Tibet and also performed traditional Tibetan dances at Eau Claire Festival Market located at the down-town Calgary.
Hundreds of Canadians keenly watched the traditional dance performances and the displayed items of the Tibetans.
The President of Tibetan Community Mr Tashi Phuntsok briefed the visitors about the current situations of Tibet and the aspects of its rich culture and tradition.
Moved by the Tibetan story, many of the people expressed their spontaneous moral support for the Tibetan cause.
Tibetan butter tea and traditional cookies (khapsey) made by the members of the Tibetan community were tasted by people with special delight and enthusiasm.
The Tibetans display was uniquely colourful enough to receive its share of deep appreciation from the audience and create a special space for itself during the festival. One could even feel that the dying peaceful cultural atmosphere of Tibet seemed to be revived temporarily in the city of Calgary.
