Dharamsala: Tibetan Women’s Association (TWA) has announced words of women’s wisdom an essay competition for Tibetan women by calling its initiative as an effort to recognise and support talented female writers in the Tibetan community.
At different winning levels, handsome cash awards have been placed respectively.
The association headquartered here in Dharamsala has invited Tibetan women around the world to write on the topic: “As the 50th anniversary of the illegal occupation of Tibet approaches, the number of Tibetans living in exile is constantly increasing. Additionally, the ancient customs and culture of Tibet are suffering greatly under the oppressive rule of China. How can Tibetan women in exile contribute to the preservation and perpetuation of sacred Tibetan cultural traditions?”
The essay has been categorised into two groups. First group is for high school students (Tibetan females) currently enrolled in grades 9 through 12. The second group is an open category for college students and others not included in the first category.
In both the categories the essays can be submitted in English, Tibetan or Chinese language and the writings should reach TWA latest by June 10.
Winners in all categories will be announced by July 1st, 2007 and the winning essays will be published in Dolma, TWA’s literary magazine, and will also be featured on TWA’s official website.
