Phayul.com expresses its deepest regret over the recent spate of incidents in Dharamshala. In the aftermath of the incidents, reports published in our website seemed to have aggravated the situation. We have no intentions whatsoever to create more tensions between the two communities.
We would like to clarify that the article “Mcleod Ganj Clash: A Non-Tibetan’s Reflection” (May 04, 2007) as the title itself suggests, is an opinion piece by an individual person and does not reflect the feelings of the Tibetan community as a whole or of the website.
We also were informed that the article had hurt the sentiments and image of the local newspapers named in the article. We are aware that much of the resentment was caused by the comments posted by our readers on the article. We deeply regret this and apologise for our publication of the article and the comments. We do try to monitor the comments posted by our readers but our attempts prove futile before the very nature of internet as a medium providing freedom of anonymity to our readers to post comments. This freedom has been misused by some of our readers to use offensive and abusive languages which had the potential of causing more tensions. The people who post these comments are not necessarily Tibetans. Anyone with a motive to cause resentment could use fake names to post offensive comments.
Phayul considers the harmony between the two communities as the highest priority at the moment. The website, therefore, withdraws the article and all the comments posted thereof.
Phayul has sent letters of apology and regret to the editors of the newspapers named in the article.
