Wisconsin Tibet Resolution is presented to World Leader

In a private meeting with the Dalai Lama, the authors of Wisconsin’s Free Tibet Resolution discussed efforts to bring pressure on the Chinese Government to accord freedom to the Tibetan people.

Representatives Spencer Black and Joe Parisi were invited to meet with the Dalai Lama on Thursday morning to talk about their efforts in Wisconsin to bring attention to the suppression of human rights in Tibet. They presented the Dalai Lama with a copy of Assembly Joint Resolution 22, recently passed by the Wisconsin Legislature. The resolution declared the day of the uprising in Tibet against Chinese occupation as “Tibet Day” in Wisconsin and called for freedom for the Tibetan people and respect for their national heritage.

Black and Parisi said that at the meeting, the Dalai Lama thanked the two legislators for their vocal support for Tibet.

“The chance to meet with the Dalai Lama and discuss Wisconsin’s strong support for his peaceful work for freedom was a very special opportunity,” said Representative Spencer Black. “Wisconsin is home to many people of Tibetan heritage and our state has long been vocal in our support for freedom in their homeland. I was honored to meet with a Nobel Peace Prize winner and a person who has come to symbolize for the world the determination of people everywhere to live free.”

Parisi added “We in Dane County are fortunate to have a strong connection to the Tibetan people and their rich culture. We’re honored to be able to meet with the Dalai Lama, and we hope our efforts in the State Legislature to recognize Tibet’s struggle will help in some small way.”
